How you publish your book matters

Don’t just publish a book on a self-publishing platform. Publish the right way. Book publishing is a tough industry and every decision you make matters. A simple mistake from formatting, distribution, and branding can make or break your book.

Here are some critical pointers for authors to consider:

Placing your book for sale via Amazon does not guarantee that readers or Amazon customers will find or discover your book. In fact, Amazon’s self-publishing platform does not make your book visible to Amazon customers. Retail algorithms are not designed to display your book to customer traffic unless it is already trending and has a surplus of sales.  Before going over why authors should not choose the destructive path of signing up to have an inexperienced “self-publisher” to indifferently publish your book to Amazon where it won’t receive much traffic, at New Book Authors Publishing an experienced Executive Publisher with 20 years of publishing experience, and our experienced editors at New Book Authors, will properly and successfully publish your book. We also have marketing available to get your book in front of the public and potential new readers. We care about book sales and the success of our authors. We also have many years of experience navigating the publishing industry. We are celebrating our seventh year, working with authors across the U.S. and abroad.

There have been a number of new websites offering to self-publish authors via self-publishing platforms associated with Amazon. The problem is that many of these vanity “self-publishing” websites are operated by people who learned the basics of how-to format a book and design a book cover, but lack the knowledge or experience to navigate the publishing industry so that authors can compete in the big leagues.  This information isn’t covered on your average self-publishing blog, but there is so much more to publishing a book than placing it on Amazon. Unfortunately, many websites offering to publish your book will simply disappear or stop communicating with the author after the book is on sale. Once they’ve collected the fee, they don’t care much about the book and whether it performs as they’ve already made their profit.

Self-publishing platforms can be great if you are an experienced marketer/ promoter or already have fans. But keep in mind that there are limitations to self-publishing platforms, since your book will not be discoverable via retail platforms where algorithms are designed to hide your book. This means, customers will not have the opportunity to discover your book (without help from you or an experienced publisher.) Lack of organic discoverability is the unfortunate outcome for thousands of authors who are self-publishing their books or using inexperienced companies to publish their work. Some retail platforms like Barnes and Noble are now removing books from its platform that are not in demand or lacking recent sales.
